2 Different Looks To Create With Chalk Paint On Your Furniture

Posted on

Chalk paint is an amazing type of paint that gives a gorgeous, textured look to anything that you paint it on. However, there are different ways that you can go about applying chalk paint to get even more unique looks for your furniture. This article will discuss 2 different looks to create with chalk paint on your furniture.

Wood Grain Look

Chalk paint in and of itself adds an amazing texture to whatever it is that you are painting, but if you would like the grains of wood to show through your chalk paint a bit more, then there are a few simple steps that you will need to follow. First of all, you are going to want to add a bit of water to your chalk paint before you apply it. The amount of water that you add is going to depend on how well you want your wood grain to show. Obviously, the more water you add, the more the wood grains will show. This thins out the paint so that it won't be quite so thick when you brush it on with the paint brush. Once you have painted the chalk paint onto your piece of wood furniture, you will then want to wipe of all of the excess paint. Once this is done, you will have a beautiful chalk painted piece of furniture that allows you to still see the gorgeous wood grains.

Distressed Look

Creating a distressed look with your chalk paint is actually easier than you might think and it creates a gorgeous, antique look. You are going to start off by painting your piece of furniture normally. Apply one coat of chalk paint, let it dry, and then apply the second coat. Once the second coat has had an ample amount of time to dry, you are then going to want to use a piece of sandpaper or a sanding stone to distress the areas of the wood that would become naturally distressed over time. This includes the corners and edges of your piece of furniture. Be sure to distress the piece enough to look antiqued, but don't over-do it and remove the paint in these areas entirely. Lastly, you will want to add a finishing wax to your piece of furniture to give it a completed look and to seal in the paint.

Whether you are going for the wood grain look or the distressed look, chalk paint can easily help you to achieve annie sloan painted furniture.
